From Parisian Light to Florentine Looms
Memories flood my mind with sounds and fragrance as I imagine spring in Paris. My early pilgrimages as a young creative took me to Paris, where I absorbed culture and style like a curious sponge, letting the architecture, exquisite textiles, gardens, cafés, museums and flea markets feed my design vocabulary. Spring in Paris is the season of renewal, and the city’s air hums with it. Even on a shoestring budget, you could feel the whisper of royalty in the streets—Versailles’ grandeur, Notre Dame’s vertical poetry, the Marais’ cobblestones lined with stories of art, music, and craft.
My aesthetic bears a classical influence, yet my journey along with my husband from athletic sportswear design, couture bridal to retailing modern furniture stretched the canvas of my expression. Today, we see a parallel in interiors: a resurgence of re-upholstery as an art form, a trend embracing sustainability and memory, where old furniture is given new life rather than discarded. This shift is shaped by a new generation that values heirloom pieces and inherited upholstery as authentic anchors for a modern home. Young families integrate vintage furnishings into their aesthetic, honoring lineage while embracing fresh textures and color palettes. It’s not just about saving a chair or a sofa; it’s about preserving craft.
The old-world trades—hand carved frames, hand stitched seams, methods passed down through generations, the careful know-how of upholsterers, couturiers, weavers and furniture makers—remain the quiet backbone of quality and longevity in our spaces. In that light, re-upholstery becomes less a replacement and more a rebirth—a way to tell a family story through fabric, thread, and care.

Design with Classical Roots

Why we love Schumacher Textiles and Wallpaper.
Schumacher pieces invite memory and a future in fabric-made form—textiles that honor heritage while delivering modern, durable luxury for interiors that endure. Since 1889, they have blended traditional elegance with a fresh, contemporary sensibility, expanding their vocabulary through monthly collections and a storied archive. This is design that feels timeless yet alive, offering luxury that is as resilient as it is beautiful. In our spaces, Schumacher brings a quiet assurance: elegance that nourishes memory and remains relevant across generations.
Old-world Weave, New-world Technology.

The Schumacher Anvers Damask speaks the language of heritage—the careful rise and fall of a damask pattern, the subtle luster of a finished surface, and the tactile memory of a fabric crafted by hands trained through generations. Yet the fiber beneath the Anvers Damask, the beauty is distinctly contemporary: Trevira CS. Unlike fabrics that rely on surface treatments, Trevira CS is inherently flame-retardant. The safety is embedded at the molecular level, ensuring that the protection cannot be washed out, worn away, or degraded over time. This means you can trust the fabric to perform its protective role as reliably as it looks elegant.
Why we love Porta Romana Lighting
Porta Romana lights are more than illumination; they are sculptural narratives handcrafted in Britain since 1988. Each piece emerges from the hands of skilled artisans—glassblowers, metalworkers, sculptors—whose attention to detail elevates light into art.

The silhouettes draw from nature, exploring trees, leaves, and graceful forms like Percy the dromedary, while finishes on plaster, ceramic, and metal are meticulously refined to a “Gold Standard.” Built to endure and designed to be cherished, Porta Romana blends luxury with longevity, elevating interiors with pieces that glow with memory and hand-made integrity. In our spaces, these lamps become quiet anchors—functional light that doubles as a sculpture, a nod to heritage craftsmanship, and a testament to modern living that values artistry as much as utility.
When we choose Porta Romana, we invite a lifetime of crafted light to illuminate both the room and the story it tells.
The Artisans, Makers and Professionals of Matouk Fine Linens

We love Matouk because their linens feel like a quiet conversation between generations—the result of nearly a century of meticulous craft using the world’s finest fabrics. In Fall River, Massachusetts, a close-knit team of artists, makers, and professionals bring a patient, intentional approach to every thread, every finish. It’s this adherence to lineage and quiet excellence that resonates with our own philosophy: luxury that lasts, pieces that invite memory, and textiles that elevate everyday life with calm, enduring presence.
Trades and Heritage;The upholsterer
Finding trades whose heritage runs as deep as the chair they repair is increasingly rare. An aging population and the shifting appeal of these crafts as careers have nudged these skills toward the edges of necessity. Yet within that tension, a quiet resurgence is taking root. A new generation is awakening to the value of quality—those chairs with hand-tied springs, the feel of a welted edge, the quiet dignity of a piece that has earned its patina through time. YouTube and podcast classrooms offer entry points for curious hands, turning curiosity into ability. But what distinguishes these DIY explorations from a true craftsman’s journey is lineage—the long, patient lineage of apprentices and masters who shaped the trade over decades, sometimes centuries.
Master and Apprentice, The path of a tradesman

The older path is a dialogue between apprentice and master, each generation absorbing and refining the tacit knowledge that books cannot hold: the pressure of a spring, the cadence of a stitch, the decision to preserve rather than replace. When a daughter or son learns at the bench, the craft travels forward with intention and humility, not as a relic but as a living practice.
In our work, we honor that lineage—welcoming new hands who carry forward the discipline, while honoring the quiet fluency of a craft that has learned to endure. The result is not merely a restored chair; it is a passing of time, a commitment to memory, and a belief that true quality remains beautifully stubborn in a rapidly changing world.
